Our History
How we began
Albert and Juliette Folens founded Folens Publishers in 1958. It started by 'accident' with study notes and exam preparation guides that quickly grew into a publishers with employees and authors by 1964. Back then we were one of the first publishers to produce books specifically for the Irish curriculum.
By the 1970s, Folens had a bigger factory, a van for deliveries, a depot in Cork and sales reps. The first primary texts were published in 1972. The business continued to grow and had over 90 employees. In the 1980's the business was passed to the 2nd generation and Dirk Folens took over.
The Folens Business today
We started to produce digital resources in the 00's with the growth of online learning. Today, we continue to create high quality school books as well as a wide variety of digital products and teaching materials for our learning platforms. The 3rd generation of the Folens family are members of our Company Board.
