LaunchShape and Space: Shape | Unit 3. 2D Shapes
This unit introduces children to 2D shapes. Children notice circles, triangles, squares and rectangles around them and begin to describe their properties. Children may use informal language such as ‘pointy ’ or ‘sharp ’ to describe what they notice. When using physical representations of 2-D shapes, ensure that they are as thin as possible to support children’s understanding about them being flat.
Number: Numeration and Counting | Unit 7. Number 5
This unit introduces the number 5. Pupils begin by using their maths eyes to identify places where they have seen the number 5 before, in its different representations. They then move on to reading and writing it, and eventually to counting out sets of 5 and subitising sets of 5. Finally, the unit explores the different components of 5, putting down the building blocks for simple addition within 5 and partitioning.
