Integrated Approach
Starlight is fully aligned to the Primary Language Curriculum and integrates oral language, reading and writing around a single theme and genre. This seamless blend of the three curriculum strands will allow you to effectively deliver the PLC. The programme covers all genres recommended by the PDST and has a strong emphasis on comprehension skills and strategies.
Oral Language Expertise!
We understand that oral language lays the foundation for strong literacy skills. Starlight’s oral language resources were developed with Dr. Áine Cregan, former lecturer in oral language at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
There are 16 visually engaging posters (one every fortnight) for every class from JI – 6th. The posters cover all oral genres and forms specified in the curriculum, including podcasts and weblinks to videos, tv ads and movie clips.
To suit your needs, the oral language component of Starlight can be purchased separately.
Makes Planning & Assessment a Breeze!
Starlight gives you total support with comprehensive and structured lesson plans. As well as yearly plans, there are integrated fortnightly plans for oral language, reading and writing all mapped to the PLC.
We have also identified TWO focus learning outcomes in each strand for each fortnightly unit of work. Termly assessments and checklists are also available.
JI-2nd Class
Junior Infants - 2nd Class
Starlight JI – 2nd provides you with everything you need for successful implementation of the PLC. A combination of print and digital resources are used to teach essential skills in oral language, reading and writing.
3rd-6th Class
3rd Class - 6th Class
In 3rd – 6th class, Starlight’s oral language posters, combined reading and skills book and comprehensive planning are all you need for successful implementation of the PLC.
